Awan Organization for Awareness and Capacity Development is a women's non-profit group working for the advancement of Iraqi women.
Through raising awareness and building capacity we work to improve the living standards and cultural life for women. Through education we work to support women's empowerment and increase their contribution in peace-making and civil and political decision making.
Awan is a founder member of SAWA, an independent coalition of non-political voluntary women's organizations advocating for women's rights in Iraq. The key principles of SAWA are:
