The Women for a Change International Foundation (WFAC) first started using Twitter in Nov 2009 to coincide with the launch of the Safe World Campaign website.
At the time we had no experience of using this social network.
Over the next few weeks, thanks to the tuition of a US lawyer, Ray Beckerman, we discovered that Twitter was not just a 'social network'.
We quickly realised the potential to connect with and learn from the many organisations and individuals working to build a safer world.
Twitter has now become a major part of our work and we have a dedicated Twitter team, tweeting in several languages.
We recently launched @Safeworldpress, our Safe World press office and @Safeworldnews our magazine department, on Twitter.
Including:
We do our best to ensure that followers share our ethos and have a genuine interest in our areas of concern.
We block followers whose prime concern appears to be self promotion, MLM, Porn, marketing of products and services etc.
We also block users who protect their tweets as we are unable to check the content. If you wish to be unblocked we are very happy if you email us.
Organisations and individuals with an interest in our areas of concern.
We take an active interest in what our followers write about. We do not automatically retweet messages, rather we prefer to research stories and share them, with appropriate acknowledgement.
To celebrate International Woman’s Day on the 8th March we will be launching our 2011 campaign.
Our new website will contain news, articles and blogs from writers we have met through Twitter.
We will be starting to list endorsing organisations and our associate groups.
