Afghanistan: Provincial women's affairs director Hanifa Safi, assasinated

An Afghan women's affairs official was killed Friday when a bomb attached to her vehicle exploded, critically wounding her husband and daughter.

"Laghman provincial women's affairs director Hanifa Safi was assassinated as a result of the explosion of a magnetic bomb attached to her vehicle," provincial police chief Abdul Rahman Sarjang said.

"Her daughter and husband along with four passersby were wounded."

Ms Safi recently said she had received a report that the Taliban was planning to kidnap her.

In light of the recent wave of targeted attacks against high-level Afghan officials, Ms. Safi said she was taking the news seriously.

“There will be more assassinations of important people, and the Taliban will try to stop women from working”

Protect Women Human Rights Defenders in Pakistan especially in FATA

Ms. Farida Afridi, a 25 year old woman human rights defender was ambushed and shot dead outside her residence in Hayatabad, Khyber Agency, FATA, on July 4th 2012.

It is evident from news reports that she was killed because she was a woman human rights defender, working with her NGO for the welfare of tribal women.

Petition to demand that FATA policy-makers take measures to prevent criminals from terrorizing NGO workers.
