Location and Team

SDTS works in the Sindh province of Pakistan which is located close to the Arabian Sea, and its main fresh water source is the Indus River. The region has recently experienced the worst floods in its history, with heavy rainfall and flash floods.

Active-Citizenship-Program

Update from Sewa Development Trust Sindh - Safe World Field Partner in Pakistan:

The Active Citizen Programme facilitates community and political participation amongst young people through interactions with local community organizations, and local and national governments. It also develops an understanding of global issues which affect young people and their communities.

By participating in the Active Citizenship programme,  young leaders will be equipped with skills to help them address social issues, access decision-making processes, and contribute to building community cohesion with people of all generations.

Medical-Camp

A One-Day Free Medical Camp was organised by Sewa Development Trust Sindh (SDTS) with the financial support of LEAD Pakistan.

The camp was held in a remote region of District Khairpur, where there are no medical facilities.

Womens-Property-Rights

One year after devastating floods wreaked havoc on Pakistan, another one struck in August.

The women, especially female-headed households, are the vulnerable groups; they face violence and gender discriminations at all levels.

Sewa Development Trust Sindh (SDTS), with financial support from the Aurat Foundation (a women's organization in Pakistan), and USAID under the Gender Equity Program (GEP), has begun implementing our Women's Land Rights project in five districts of northern Sindh province.

Agricultural-support-2

One year after devastating floods wreaked havoc on Pakistan, another one struck in August.

Sewa Development Trust Sindh (SDTS), with financial support from the Canadian High Commission under the Canadian Fund for Local Initiative (CFLI) provided agricultural support and distribution of vegetable seed, fertilizer and toolkit in UCs Agra and Ripri Tehsil Gambat district Khairpur.

Emergency assistance like seeds, fertilizers, and toolkits, enables affected families to restore their economy and re-fertilize their lands to combat food security.

NFIs-for-women--children

One year after devastating floods wreaked havoc on Pakistan, another one struck in August.

Safe World Field Partner, Sewa Development Trust Sindh (SDTS), has been accepted into the revised Pakistan Floods Emergency Response Plan 2010 (PIFERP 2010) as of 17th September 2010.

STDS has responded to this emergency by supporting 500 families and 4500 individuals with shelters and NFI for winter.  Women, children, and vulnerable families who are without shelter and have taken refuge under the open sky, will be given priority.

105-year-old Musmat Salma miraculously survived alone, for eight days and nights, in flood water. She shares her story:

"After eight days, hunger had weakened my body.

Then suddenly my grandson came to my ruined house to search and take some things. Then I cried out and he quickly brought a boat for me..."

In the August 2010 flood, many lives were lost and many families were impacted and devastated in different places.

Musmat Naz Khatoon and her daughter, Bakhshul, 32 years old, have a very heart wrenching story.

Naz Khatoon lost her eye-sight and now she is completely blind.

And her daughter Bakhshul was just a little disabled before the flood.

But after flood, she is completely disabled and all her organs are not functioning properly.
