Around Wakiso Subcounty, in Uganda, nearly two thirds of the children have lost at least one parent, mostly due to the prevalence of HIV/AIDS.

Hope Children's Centre is a local, community initiated educational institute that offers formal and vocational education to mainly the less privileged children, with most emphasis on orphans.

So the community was mobilised on a self joint venture and semi-permanent structures were constructed using locally available materials, which later turned to permanent ones after a joint struggle by the community itself.

Hope Children's Centre is a non-sectarian, non-discriminatory NGO with no religious bias.

Hope Children's Centre partners with the Watermore Primary School in Bristol, England, which has donated school uniforms.
