Mahoro: First in the Family to Go to College

Mahoro is a young girl, 18 years old.

She is the first of her family to be able to attend college --  although for financial reasons, her retention in the school system at any time may be compromised.

Our staff member, Alexandra, has begun to sponsor Mahoro to offer her the chance to continue her studies and encourages her to do so.

A Gift for Mahoro

Last year, Alexandra designed, as part of a knitting class she gave, a little cover that is composed of parts more or less square (and other forms! ) made by people who learned to knit.Blanket-Knitting-Class-2011

This blanket is to be a gift to Mahoro.
Each of the members of this class was pleased to contribute to this gesture of support and solidarity.

The blanket is lined with felt, and is very soft and warm and cozy.

Our message of thanks:

"Hello everyone,

Thank you so much for this blanket. Mahoro will be happy to receive it, and I shall explain that you were at least ten creative people to work on it.

Your common blanket is a treasure to her and her family. It will convey to them beautiful things like creativity, energy, and other things.

Thank you so much, from my heart, for your contribution in helping my childhood neighbours.

and sorry for my little English."

Missing Boy

We had just found a sponsor for a young boy, and we now can’t the child.

He had just left school as well as his home and family. As with most children of his age, he has gone to Kigali, probably to look for a job as a housekeeper.

We are looking for him to tell him that there no more for him to fear, now that he has a sponsor.

But it is difficult to find him: nobody really knows where to find him.

And he has no telephone (of course!) to connect to. We just hope that from neighbours talking about this good news, one day, the words might come to his ears, and that he appears to us again.

Food is Top Priority

We have made food a priority for our projects of the coming year.

We have finalized our vision and shared it with local authorities in Bwira. But so far, it has been difficult for us to make a choice between clean water, food production, and producing electricity.

Now we definitely have managed to make of food production our next priority.

We have submitted the project to the SEED Foundation and are looking forward to their answer. A presentation of the project is planned for the end of February to a company here  in France, where we are registered.

However, when we talk of priorities, there are at least two other goals we aim to acheive that we will keep in mind on a regular basis, throughout our existence.

Our commitment to find markets for the products made by the women's cooperative, ABIHUJE, is a constant goal.Ubuntu-craftwork2

And of course, looking for sponsors for Bwira children remains for us another programme that needs communication on daily basis.

Mahoro and our missing boy, mentioned above, are our latest news in this respect.
